Sometimes I Amaze Myself

4 Jun

That’s right. I said it, quite unhumbly. There are certain things I am not good at, but other things that I excel at. One of my more supernatural abilities is my uncanny instinct for predicting how long it will take to get somewhere. This ability is especially pronounced on the stretches of freeway that I know well, aka the 170 or so miles between Valencia (the most north I have driven on a regular basis (home of Calarts)) and the Mexico border. I have spent thousands and thousands of hours traversing the freeways between these two points.

My musical stomping grounds

Thus I have a pretty good idea of how long it will take me to get from one point to another in this stretch.

I was reminded of this yesterday when I had to be at Wavaflow Studios by 10:00 AM and would be heading up from San Diego. Here is what the clock said when I was all parked and ready to get out of the car:

It really doesn’t seem like that big of a deal until you consider the % accuracy. I left at 7:28, and arrived at 9:59. That’s 1 minute out of 210. To put it another way, 99.9952% accuracy. Probably my best effort in awhile.

Today, I have to go up to Glendale and be there by 11:00 AM. I’ll let you know what happens…
